The following page contains archived documentation and downloads for:
- SBC65EC Revision 1 boards: The PCB will have the marking "SBC65EC REV1" on it,
and is assembled with the PIC18F6621 chip.
The board has no label on it, and is not programmed with a bootloader.
- SBC65EC Revision 2 boards without bootloader: The PCB will have the marking
"SBC65EC REV2" on it, and is assembled with the PIC18F6621 chip. The board has no label on it, and is not programmed with
a bootloader.
If you have any of the above mentioned versions of the SBC65EC, then your board does NOT have
a bootloader. A PIC programmer is required to update the firmware. You can NOT use the "Modtronix
Network Bootloader" to update your firmware! For details on programming this boards, please see
Programming Modtronix PIC Based Boards.
The firmware for the network bootloader is not available for free. If you have a Revision 2 boards,
you can return it to us to have it programmed with the bootloader. Revision 1 boards can not be
programmed with a bootloader.

software, for downloads,

If you do not have a PIC programmer, you will have to use the tools and documentation contained
on this page. For example, to update your web pages, you have to use the old "MPFS.EXE" application
contained in the source code download on this page.

The SBC65EC is an embedded Single Board Computer (SBC) with 10Mbs Ethernet and RS232 interface.
It can be added to any 10/100Mbs Ethernet network. It is assembled with a PIC18F6621 CPU,
a 24LC512 EEPROM for web pages, and with the
Modtronix SBC65EC Web Server
installed! By using FTP or RS232 (terminal program like Hyperterminal), the demo web page can be replaced with
a custom one - no firmware programming or PIC programmer is required!
It is supplied programmed with the Free
Modtronix SBC65EC Web Server
firmware (in PIC18F6621 chip) and web pages (in external 24LC512). All source code can be downloaded below.
The users can easily modify the HTML web pages (included with source code) and download the updated files to the SBC65EC -
NO special programmer or compiler is required! The user can insert special tags in the HTML pages
that will be replaced by port pin or analog input values. All inputs, outputs, analog inputs and more can
be monitored and configured via the web pages. See

The firmware is written in C, and can be compiled with the HiTech or Microchip MPLAB (student) C18 compilers.
MPLAB projects for both compilers are provided in the source code download. A Free, student
version of the
Microchip MPLAB C18 compiler is available and can be used to compile the project. The compiled
code generated with the student version is only slightly larger than that created with the commercial version.
So, for users who wish to modify the firmware, all that has to be done is install the free compiler,
open MPLAB project, modify code and compile. For a forum discussion of the free compiler click

Solder straps are provided at the back of the board to select RS232 or TTL levels for the onboard USART.
Default settings are for RS232 levels, which enables this board to communicate with a PC via its
RS232 port. This serial port is used for secondary configuration and debugging. All configuration that can
be done via the serial port, can also be done via web pages. This enables the serial port to be used for
other functions like Ethernet to serial interface converters.
Typical applications include HTTP Web servers (like the Modtronix SBC65EC Web Server), Mail
clients, Ethernet to RS232 interface converter, Ethernet to RS485 interface converters, Remote
control via Web Server, Protocol Bridge applications - Ethernet to USART, CAN, I2C, SPI etc.

- Delivered with PIC18F6621 CPU, 24LC512 EEPROM and Modtronix SBC65EC Web Server.
- 64KBytes FLASH, 3840 Bytes SRAM and 64Kbytes EEPROM. The Modtronix SBC65EC Web Server uses less than
half the available FLASH and SRAM, and about 25% of the available EEPROM space. There is thus heaps of space
left for custom code and web pages!
- 32 user programmable I/O pins. They can be monitored, configured and updated via web pages. See the
Modtronix SBC65EC Web Server
for details.
- 12 user programmable, 10 bit Analog to Digital converters. They can be monitored, configured and monitored via web pages.
- Red user LED on PIC port RB6.
- Green LED for Link indication.
- Yellow LED to indicate transmit or receive activity.
- RS232 interface via 3 pin connector or Frontend board. The

serial port cable can be used to connect to the serial port of a target DTE device (comm port of
a personal computer for example) - see
- Is part of our MicroX product range, meaning you can upgrade or expand it with any of the

- Compact Daughter Board connector.
- Conforms to standard MicroX Compact Main Board dimensions (58mm wide
and 54mm high).

- Assembled with 10BaseT Ethernet and RS232 interface with +- 15kV ESD protection.

Adding a Daughter Board to the SBC65EC
The SBC65EC can be used as a full functional Single Board Computer. It's Daughter Board
connector can be used as an expansion port to add additional functionality. It contains
all free CPU port pins, power, I2C, SPI, RS232 signal,.....

Using the SBC65EC as a Daughter Board
The SBC65EC can be used to add Ethernet capabilities to any board by using it as a
daughter board. All connectors and required to do this can be purchased from
our web site. The board that is to take the SBC65EC as a daughter board needs to provide two
2x10 pin, 2.54mm pin headers
for the SBC65EC to plug into. Additionally, 3 PCB supports can also be provided if additional
stability is required - this is however not neccessary seeing that the board is very stable when plugged
into the two 2x10 pin connectors.
